Speaking Tracker
Last checked against the app: 8 August 2026
Everything in this document is decided and matches what the app actually does. What has not happened yet is review by whoever is accountable for the school’s data protection — which matters before this app is used by students, rather than before it is used by the adults testing it.
Delete this notice once that review has happened.
Speaking Tracker is for people aged 18 and over. We are building the protections younger learners need — the arrangements for parental consent in particular — and until those are in place and reviewed, the app is not open to under-18s.
Speaking Tracker records you speaking English for a minute or two at a time, writes down what you said, and gives you a short note back about what went well and one thing to try. It keeps a record so you can see how much you have practised.
Your account. Your email address, so you can sign in and so your practice follows you to another device.
What you tell us about yourself. Optionally: what to call you, what you do, what you use English for, and what you would like to get better at. These are used to write speaking prompts suited to you. Every one of them can be left blank, and you can change them at any time in Account.
Your recordings. The audio of you speaking.
What you said. The written transcript of each recording, the feedback written for it, and measurements taken from it — how many words you spoke, how quickly, how often you paused.
Your practice record. When you practised, for how long, which prompt, and anything you chose to write in the reflection afterwards.
What you have agreed to. Each consent decision, when you made it, and which version of this wording you were shown. Changing your mind is recorded as a new decision rather than by erasing the old one, so the history stays honest.
Not collected: the notes you jot before speaking. Those stay on your phone and are never sent anywhere.
We do not collect your location, your contacts, your browsing, or anything about what you do in other apps. There is no advertising, no tracking, and no analytics service in this app.
Deepgram receives your recording and turns it into text.
Anthropic receives that text and writes your feedback.
Neither is told your name or your email — they receive the audio and the words and nothing that identifies you. Both act on our instructions and may not use your data for their own purposes.
This only happens if you agree. You are asked before the first recording is ever sent, and you can withdraw at any time in Account. Without that agreement the app still records you, and still keeps your recordings if you agreed to that below, but there is no transcript and no feedback.
We may also keep your recordings and what you said to make the coaching and the app better. That work is ours, not theirs — the two companies above are not given your recordings to improve their own products.
We only keep a copy of your recordings if you agree to it. Saying yes keeps a copy on our servers in Canada, which is what lets your practice follow you to another device and survive a lost phone. Saying no leaves your recordings on the phone that made them — you can still record and still listen back, and your minutes, streaks and badges still follow you, but there can be no transcript, no coaching and no teacher listening, because all three need the audio to reach us. You can change your mind at any time, and turning it off removes the copies we hold.
If you join a group, you are asked whether teachers can listen. Say yes and a teacher in your own group can hear your recordings, read the transcripts, and replace the coaching with their own words — which is the point: a person who knows you is a better coach than a machine. Say no and you are still in the group, still see its prompts, and no teacher can listen. You can change your mind at any time, and their access stops immediately.
Supabase hosts the database and file storage on our behalf, in Canada. We chose a Canadian region deliberately: recordings of voices are personal in a way that most data is not, and keeping them in Canada is what Ontario schools expect.
Your recordings: 12 months from the day you made each one, then deleted automatically.
Everything else — your transcripts, your feedback, your minutes, streaks and badges — for as long as you have an account. These are your progress record. They are small, and they are far less revealing than your voice.
Deleting your account deletes all of it immediately, including recordings that are less than 12 months old.
Account → Delete my account removes your recordings, your transcripts, your feedback and your progress, and closes your account. It cannot be undone and it is not reversible by us.
Signing out is different: it clears this device only, and your practice is still there when you sign back in.
You can see everything the app holds about you inside the app, change your answers about yourself at any time, withdraw either consent at any time, and delete your account and everything in it.
To ask anything else about your data, or to have it deleted for you, email info@speakingtracker.com.
If this wording changes in a way that alters what you agreed to, you will be asked again rather than told quietly.
